01/09/2010    Chairman's Update Sept 1st
Hello Everyone

Well I am in mourning after Sunday. After all the years were we not due a bit of luck???? Will I ever see Sam Maguire in Kildare? My heartfelt thanks on behalf of the Club to Hugh McGrillan and indeed Johnny Doyle and the entire panel of players for giving us such entertainment during the year. Their commitment was total.
Thanks also to Ann Hughes, Ann Donovan and Shay Cummins for organising the Lilywhite night on Saturday Night. Hopefully it wont be long before we have another one!!

Anyway life goes on….and the Camogie Ladies from Kildare did provide great joy on Saturday when they won the All Ireland Junior A Camogie Title with a really hard fought and well deserved win over Armagh. It was a most enjoyable and absorbing match, where we were behind for much of it, but we showed huge determination to eventually wear them down and emerge comfortable winners. When Kildare last won a national camogie title in 1990, Celbridge had no camogie team at all. This time round we accounted for 25% of the winning panel, and have the President of the Association as well!!! We have come along way and its a great credit to all the people who worked so hard over the years to develop camogie within the club. Congrats to the 6 players on the panel…Saloige O`Keeffe, Aisling Maher, Angela Lyons, Niamh Concannon, Mary Murtagh and Susie O`Carroll.

Next weekend we will contribute strongly to another National Final when the Kildare Minor Hurlers take on Westmeath in Navan at 2pm in the All-Ireland Minor B Hurling Championship Final.
Please go along and support these great young lads, who hopefully will bring home silverware. We are represented by Conor Kenny, Gerry Keegan, Fergal Conway, Liam McDonagh, and Shane O'Flynn, as well as selector Philip Kenny.

Last weekend I was at not one but two heartbreak matches as on Friday Night our very talented Under 16 Footballers lost out agonisingly to Athy in the Championship semi final. I think it was the first time since Under 10 that this group of lads suffered defeat in Kildare…and we lost by just a point in most dramatic circumstances in a thrilling match. The entire team can be very proud of their performance.

Better news last night with our Senior Ladies qualifying for the County Final with a great win over Rheban on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-4.

On the downside our Third Football team lost their championship match last night against Leixlip 2-10 to 2-7.

With Kildare out of the championship, Club action is going to gather pace rapidly and fixtures will come thick and fast. See attached details.

All Ireland Hurling

Next Saturday we have music and craic in the Lounge on the Eve of the Hurling All Ireland. Get your name down for the draw for All Ireland Hurling tickets on the night (you must be there to win) We will also have a Senior Hurling challange match against Athenry earlier on … with our team fresh from a great 2 19 to 2 17 win over the great Ballyhale Shamrocks (who had a very strong team out) last weekend.

I`d like to add my congratulations to all involved….wherever we go we make our presence felt!!!

Regards

Willie

30/08/2010    Under 12s Represent the Club in Dublin
Celbridge took part in the Leinster Under-12 Hurling Blitz on Saturday August 28. The event was staged by 25 Dublin clubs, each club hosting two or three visiting Leinster clubs.

Celbridge were hosted by St. Brigids in Blanchardstown and got the day off to the best possible start with a 4-3 to 0-5 win over Erins Isle, followed by a keenly contested 4-1 to 2-7 draw against St. Brigids.

A strong performance in the final game against a young Harps (Laois) side saw Celbridge win by 2-8 to 1-1. This, coupled with Erins Isle defeating St. Brigids, saw Celbridge win out the blitz. The Celbridge managers wish to convey their appreciation to St. Brigids GAA Club for their hospitality and friendliness throughout the day and look forward to playing matches against the other participating teams in the near future
