Gaelic Games Player Pathway

We are delighted to inform you that Celbridge GAA has formally adopted the "Gaelic Games Player Pathway" as a strategic initiative to bring the club forward and to enhance the player, coaching and involvement experience. The attached document has been jointly produced and endorsed by the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association, and now forms part of Celbridge GAA ONE CLUB policy, across all codes. The Player Pathway is based on the FTEM athlete development framework, empirical evidence and international best practice.

We are One Club with multiple codes. This pathway has been adopted by many clubs to drive continuous improvement and consistency within and across the various codes. It is a proven player development template to enable players develop skills, remain motivated, remain involved and respectful of their coaches and club. At the core of the Player Pathway Program is the concept on ONE CLUB, Community and Dúchas

You will note in the introduction section of the attached document the reference to "Dúchas".

"This unique bond between our games and our culture is best described by the Irish word ‘dúchas’.

"Our dúchas is very much engrained in each one of us, it is what sets us apart as a nation. It has a richness and a hereditary that confers on Irish people a sense of empathy and care, a sense of warmth and togetherness, a sense of community and place, a sense of who we are today and what we have become"

Our club motto is "Ár nDúchas Slán" - Keeping our Heritage Safe

What is the Player Pathway Program:

Put simply, it is an incremental program that provides a template to develop players across all codes from Academy through to Elite/High Performance. This provides consistency in player coaching, skill development and involvement across and within all codes. It is an inclusive program that caters for all ages and abilities. Clearly Celbridge have been very successful at all levels over the years. The aims of this program is to drive consistency across coaching and player development while increasing participation and player fulfilment.

Why launch this program now:

The timing is right to bring the talented players coming thorough the underage teams at Celbridge GAA to bring them consistently through the Player Pathway levels – Foundation to Talent Development to to Elite/High Performance players.

There are a number of stages to the rolling out of this program initiative, and you, as coaches/mentors/players/members, are an essential part in its scripting, delivery and realization of the desired outcomes for our club and its players.

What are the next steps:

Celbridge GAA have established a Sub Committee to co-ordinate within and across all codes. This committee is made up as follows:

  • Tony McDonagh - Chair of Coaching Committee
  • Seamus Matthews - Football
  • Brendan McGrath - Hurling
  • Darren Gallagher - LGFA
  • Sean O'Riain- Camogie

Over the remainder months of the summer we ask that players, coaches and members read the attached Player Pathway Program that has proven so successful in many clubs. In September and onwards we will schedule information evenings / training sessions whereby we will bring in the GAA representatives and external speakers to provide insights into how they implemented their version of the Player Pathway. Clearly we have done many things correct over the years at Celbridge GAA but now we have a chance to take stock and learn from others as we plot how Celbridge GAA will improve the player, coaching and participation experience within our club.

Ár nDúchas Slán.
