Match Report: Junior Camogie, Clane V Celbridge

Junior Camogie Clane 1-08 Celbridge 2-03 Played on a lovely April spring evening Celbridge were unlucky not to come away with anything out of this game. Fiona Lannigan opened the scoring after 4 minutes with a fine point. Incredibly there was to be no further scoring for the next fifteen minutes, until Grainne Martin equalised with a free, when Anna Gallagher was harshly penalised for pushing. Celbridge responded instantly when Michelle O'Dwyer found space on the right side of the attack and squared a lovely long range pass to Fiona Lannigan who buried the ball in the Clane net. Celbridge had several chances in the next few minutes to extend the lead, but all that counted was a point when Fiona passed to her sister Aine whose shot was brilliant saved by the Clane keeper at the expense of a point. HT Celbridge 1-02 Clane 0-01. Clane came out for the second half with all guns blazing. Points from Grainne Martin, Aoife Glynn, Dearbhla Martin and Grainne Martin levelled the game for Clane. Celbridge finally lifted the siege when Anna Gallagher found Aine Magee on the right and her first time ball into the Clane goal area was scrambled home by Fiona Lannigan. Clane hit back through three pointed frees by Grainne Martin before Clane scored a fortuitous goal that travelled between a lot of players and ended up in the corner of the net, the first time Clane had led in the game with five minutes to go. Celbridge tried in vain to come back, but did score another fine individual point by Anna Hepple who collected a clearance from Sarah Kelly before running twenty meters and driving the ball over the bar. This was a great battling performance by the Celbridge girls to run the current Junior B champions so close. While everyone battled brilliantly on the day, special mention must go to our full back line of Pia Mitchell, Captain Sinead McCabe and Sarah Wallace backed up by Sarah Kelly in goal were all exceptional. Scorers: Fiona Lannigan 2-01, Aine McGee 0-01 and Anna Hepple 0-01. Team: Kelly, Mitchell, McCabe, Wallace, Connell, Percy, Naughton, Gallagher, Fitzmaurice, McGee, O'Dwyer, Hepple, Lannigan, McGoldrick, O'Dwyer, Duffy Many thanks to Hugh Gallagher for report.

Celbridge girls finish strongest to win shield.

Celbridge camogie ended their U15 Div 1 league campaign with a terrific Shield final victory over Naomh Bríd (an amalgamation of Leixlip and Cappagh) in a titanic battle in the camogie grounds at Donore. Presenting the Cup, county member Jim Kennedy described the game as being of as high a standard as you would find anywhere.  A late goal sent Naomh Bríd in a point ahead at the half and when they scored another in a goalmouth scramble things looked ominous for the Celbridge girls in blue. Four points down with 19 minutes to play, Celbridge started to get more reward for their strong play and responded magnificently scoring 1-2 to nudge ahead, only for Naomh Bríd to draw level again. Celbridge finished the stronger, however, scoring twice to run out winners 2-5 to 2-3. A feature of the game was the excellent team play throughout the field. The girls on both teams deserve enormous praise for their hard work this Autumn and their excellent displays in the league matches, where there was rarely more than a score or two between all four teams in the Division. A competitive division like that can only enhance the standard of Kildare camogie.  Celbridge U15 Div 1 Panel: Rachel Molloy, Neasa Ní Ógáin, Niamh Mimnagh, Ellen Browne, Grace  Mimnagh, Róisín Naughton, Amy Gallagher, Hannah Kearns, Niamh McInerney, Niamh Keegan, Grace Carragher, Sadb Mitchell, Rachel O'Reilly, Beth Corry, Aisling O'Riain, Emma Elliott, Anna Boyle, Ashla Copeland, Alex O'Reilly. Leixlip Panel: Caoimhe Matthews, Emma Curtin, Abby Tarrant, Shauna Fox, Hannah Sylvester, Saoirse Jordan, Deirbhile Keegan, Rachel Barrett, Ciara Bracken, Emily Dunne, Laura Brown, Faye Smith, Nicole Kenna, Naoise O'Cuill, Caoimhe Cronin, Noreen Hussy, Sinead Sexton, Leah Doyle, Aoife O'Cuill, Grace Clarke. CELBRIDGE GAA ACADEMY

GAA for FUN After the huge success of the Celbridge Nursery academy programme last year we are delighted to announce that we are starting back again!! The emphasis of the Club’s Nursery academy is on fun and child development and over the course of the Nursery academy programme to reinforce the values that will keep our children as lifelong members of the GAA, and also to help our children with everyday values required in life such as teamwork, discipline and fair play. At our Junior Nursery academy your children will be introduced to sport in a friendly, fun and safe environment not just concentrating on GAA skills but also fundamental skills know as the ABC,s – Agility, Balance and Coordination. Children will follow a specific programme of progression in their development of individual motor skills (jumping, throwing, catching, striking) and it is our aim to keep the coaching sessions fun and with plenty of variety with these important skills in mind. We know that children grow, develop and learn at different rates throughout their lives and with a dedicated coaching team and Nursery committee we hope to assist in every child’s development regardless of their sporting ability. Children will be put into different groups depending on their age and ability. The club's Nursery academy section is open to all children from 5 years old. No appointment or pre-arranged meetings are necessary, just come along to one of our sessions and our coaches will take it from there.
