The Beginning
It all started back in the bitter cold of January up at the astro turf 5-a-side pitches, training in the rain, frost and snow. The squad shook off the Christmas turkey and began preparing for their Feile and U-14 hurling season.
This year’s team was a good mix of U-14 and U-13 lads. Some had played together in last year’s U-13 Autumn league so they weren’t strangers to each other. A lot of hard work was put in by players and coaches, training every Wednesday and Sunday for the next few months. We had an excellent challenge match against Na Fianna from Dublin which we won and then carried on to Croke Park to watch Dublin beat Limerick in the National Hurling League and then Dublin defeat Derry in perhaps one of the worst games of football ever to grace the stadium. It was a great day out and really bonded the team.
U-11 hurlers, well done on such great hurling and commitment during course of autumn league.
14 very competitive matches over last 7 weeks at a time when we were all busy trying to keep a few sports going and do homework and the projects.
it was brillant to see the skill levels rising and to welcome Jacob and Tomasz onto our panel. See you all during the week.
- Des & Kevin.

The annual Celbridge GAA CLUB U-11 Hurling Tournament is fixed for Sat 27th June.
Teams from all over Ireland will be participating including Mount Sion (Waterford), Kiltale (Meath), Eire Og CC, Maynooth, Naas, Kilcormac-Killoughley (Offaly), Carrick-on-Shannon Hurling Club (Leitrim), Bride Rovers (Cork), Killimordaly (Galway), Camross (Laois), and of course Celbridge who are entering 2 teams this year.
This year’s tournament has expanded to have 12 teams participating. The first round of matches throw in at 10:30 with the finals pencilled in for 14:30. Celbridge and Kildare star Mark Moloney will be presenting the medals and perpetual shields.
This is the 3rd year of the tournament and if it turns out similar to the last couple of years then it is sure to be a big success.
Everyone is invited down to the club to see skilful and exciting U-11 hurling and to cheer on the 2 Celbridge teams. We have a panel of players this year that can challenge any team in Ireland and everyone is really looking forward to the big day.
A lot of effort from parents and volunteers is going into the preparation for the tournament – all we need will be a nice day to make it perfect occasion. Since everyone knows that God loves hurling this shouldn’t be a problem!
See you there on Saturday 27th June.
