Vetting
In the GAA, any person who carries out a role of responsibilty, be that coach, helper, parent supervisor, referee, executive member, underage referee/helper must be vetted. This applies even if you have been already vetted with any other organisation. The National Vetting Bureau Act (2016) places a statutory obligation on everyone involved and on the GAA to ensure that all persons are vetted prior to taking up their role.
E Vetting
When the Vetting Act came into place in 2016 the GAA became one of the first organisations to replace paper vetting with the new on line / e-vetting system.
E Vetting involves 3 steps and needs to be completed by:
- New volunteers as outlined above
- Anyone already vetted by the GAA over 5 years ago
- Any person aged 16 to 18 yrs old fulfilling a role with the club...For 16 to 18 yr olds a Parent/Guardian Consent form must be completed (in addition to the steps below)
Step 1
The initial vetting application occurs at club level where you must firstly complete the GAA eVetting ID form. This form compels you to make contact with your Children's Officer / Vetting Officer on footballchildrensofficer@celbr idgegaa.com and to provide proof of your identity to them. Details of acceptable proof of identity are listed on the ID form. (Documents verified must provide a minimum of 100 points needed). The ID verification may be retained by the Vetting Officer who will then shred it once you've been successfully vetted, or you can include it with your application in Step 2.
Step 2
Complete every section of the GAA online E Vetting application form in full. If you wish to scan and attach your ID documents to it, you must tick YES in the last two boxes. Only then will you unlock a facility inviting you to upload a pdf of your documents.
Once you complete the GAA on line vetting form the information is provided to the National Vetting Bureau (NVB) by the GAA. The details you have entered will be e mailed back to you, your Club Secretary and Children's Officer / Vetting Officer. You will then receive an on line NVB Vetting form which needs to be completed within 30 days to complete the final stage of the process.
Step 3
The NVB Vetting application form will be issued to the e mail address you provided in Step 2. Completing this form is a confidential matter between you and the NVB. All sections of this form must be completed including current and previous addresses etc.
Once all sections of this form have been answered, this then completes your application process for E Vetting with the GAA and you will be contacted by the GAA to inform you of the outcome of your vetting as soon as possible.
