Celbridge Ladies U16 Football Team through to Division 5 League Final

Congratulations to Celbridge Ladies U16 Football Team who progressed to the Division 5 League Final by defeating Naas in an exciting semi-final clash.  Despite very windy conditions both teams registered some fine scores in the first half and by half time Celbridge led by 1-6 to 1-3, with Rachel O’Reilly getting the home team’s only goal.  A long range point from Alex Casey and second goal from Maria Keating helped Celbridge to extend their lead to six points early in the second half.  Naas however were still in this game and it took a number of superb saves from Celbridge’s keeper Abby Collinge to prevent them from adding to their goal tally at this stage.  Celbridge’s third goal of the night came after a fine passing move begun by Niamh Mortell in her own half and finished expertly by Rachel O’Reilly for her second goal of the game.  This score put Celbridge seven points ahead however Naas to their credit never give up and two quick goals from their dangerous full forward line ensured that this game went right down to the wire.  Although Naas finished strongly a combination of a couple of late points from Alex Casey and some resolute defending saw Celbridge to victory by two points. For Celbridge Sarah Wallace, Emma Lynch and Niamh Tracey all had fine games in defence.  Alex Casey scored a number of fine points from play and placed balls, while Rachel O’Reilly was the pick of Celbridge’s forwards.  Celbridge’s stand out player on the night however was the goalkeeper Abby Collinge who pulled off a string of great saves.  Commiserations to Naas who give their all and contributed to an exciting game that was played in a sporting manner throughout.   Well done to the mentors Mike and Kevin and all the girls on the team for getting to the final.  This is another great achievement in what has been a very successful year for Celbridge ladies football.  All the best in the final against Confey.     Final Score Celbridge (3-10) v Naas (4-5)

★Match Report★ The Naas U12’s Girls VS Celbridge U12’s Girls

★Match Report ★ The Naas U12’s Girls VS Celbridge U12’s Girls – 30th June 2016 @7PM Naas GAA  [widgetkit id=506] The Naas U12’s Girls and Celbridge U12’s Girls played out a very fast paced League match clash in Naas on Thursday evening (30th June 2016 @7pm); there was an excellent level of support , with a large number of people out watching the match, parents/guardians (The damp weather didn’t affect the excellent support) on both sides. We had a small number of players out on injury/holidays for Celbridge team, but this didn’t change the fact that we had an excellent turn out.  With a previous away win for the Celbridge girls against Cappagh under their belt; our Celbridge U12’s girl’s football team were ready & fired up for the next challenge against their Naas opponents in this league match.  As the referees whistle started the game, Celbridge were the fastest into their stride and struck first with an excellent first volley goal by our forward, this was followed by rain of shots from the Celbridge attackers, follow by more goals, as even playing against the wind didn’t seem to hinder the girls.  Naas girls didn’t give up and in fairness; they did come back into the match in the second half, but at that stage the game was out of reach. As Celbridge girls had put all of their hard training techniques into practice and the Celbridge defence held strong only letting in one goal near the very end. The main battle took place in the mid-field between Naas & Celbridge over the game, but as the Celbridge mid-field won the battle and then supplied excellent passes to the forward attackers, who in turn were clinical & creative with their scoring.  Needless to say! it was another great performance from our Celbridge U12’s girls football team and it’s clear to see that these girls have learning allot since the start of season, with that defeat to Lexilip, which seems so long ago. I’ve no doubt that some of these talented girls will be playing for their County in the coming years. Their coaches: Brendan Pimlott & Sean Gallagher were very proud of how they all played on the night and even our new team members done Celbridge/themselves proud. U14 Ladies Division 3 Final: Celbridge v Two Mile House 04/06/16

Many congratulations to Celbridge U14 Ladies who deservedly won the Division 3 Championship at Hawkfield on Saturday 4th of June. A very focused and determined Celbridge team took to the pitch for the final with great support from the sidelines. Having won possession from the throw in Two Mile House got the first score of the final.  Despite falling behind Celbridge soon began to show their quality with Caitlin Thomas dominant at centre-half back supported superbly by Eve Wallace, who never stopped running for the duration of the match and Ellen Thornton who was rock-solid throughout the game. At midfield, Maria Keating and Niamh Mortell, who between them must have covered every blade of grass on the pitch, started to dictate play and create chances for Celbridge’s dangerous forward line.  In the first quarter however Celbridge failed to translate possession into scores firing a number of wides.  Two Mile House’s full back line were very strong throughout and made Celbridge’s forwards work for their scores all day.  Celbridge’s first score of the game came from a free by Maria and this was followed by a great point from Rachel O’Reilly who had a superb game and was at times practically unstoppable.  Celbridge were now flying and following a sustained period of pressure Two Mile House conceded an own goal. Megan Quinn, who was a constant threat, then got Celbridge’s third point when she sped in from the left wing and accurately pointed.  A point from distance from Niamh was then followed by an absolutely fantastic goal when Rachel soloed past three or four opponents before smashing the ball into the net off the bar.  Megan then got her second point of the game following another fine run.  Celbridge’s final score of the half came when full forward Ciara Gallagher, who was carrying an injury, turned her opponent and fired low into the corner of the goal to put Celbridge 3-5 to 0-2 up at half time.  Celbridge’s defensive display in the first half was superb, with Aideen Stack turning in a true captain’s performance while Ciana O Sullivan and Claire Landers probably played their best games of the season.  Meanwhile in goal Eva O Hara had a really fine game until she was injured in the second half and was replaced by Amy Hogan, who also played outfield in the final. Amy Hanlon and Erin Ruddy worked tirelessly during the half and contributed to Celbridge’s strong performance with their determination and skills. Celbridge’s dominance of the game continued in the second half as they scored 2-3 without reply.  Nikki O’Keefe got the first goal of the half pouncing on a loose ball to finish well and shortly after that a fifth goal arrived when Rachel caught an accurate kick pass from Maria and finished strongly.  Maria, Ciara and Rachel then added further points to stretch Celbridge’s lead to 5-7 to 0-2. To their credit Two Mile House kept going and were rewarded when they scored 3 goals and point in a three minute spell.  Celbridge however soon bounced back and fittingly got the final score of the game when Maria danced though the oppositions defence and fired into the net.  So congratulations to Celbridge, who having lost two previous finals were worthy winners on the day. This was a real team effort and throughout the game the Celbridge players displayed a really high level of skill, fitness and commitment.  As always the players on the sideline were like a 16th man as they roared on the team from start to finish.  The depth of the panel has been one of Celbridge’s key strengths all season and this was certainly a victory for every member of the squad.  Special mention to the four mentors– Tommy Stack, Paul Lynch, Jason Adderley and Darren Gallagher, who have put a huge amount of time and work into building this excellent football team. It is worth mentioning that both sets of mentors and supporters while enthusiastically supporting their teams did so with the utmost respect for their opponents and this contributed to the sporting manner in which the game was played.  The referee, Caroline Sexton ensured the flow of the game and explained her decisions to the teams which was much appreciated. Commiserations to Two Mile House who never gave up. They are a young and a very skilful team who will surely go from strength to strength. However in the end Celbridge were too strong and were deserved winners having been the dominant team in this division all season. Well done ladies you are a credit to Kildare LGFA and to the club. Celbridge Abú ! . Final Score: Celbridge (6-8) v Two Mile House (3-3)   Celbridge Scorers: Maria Keating (1-2); Megan Quinn (0-2); Rachel O’Reilly (2-2) Nikki O’Keefe (1-0); Ciara Gallagher (1-1); Niamh Mortell (0-1)   [widgetkit id=491]   [widgetkit id=492]

U14 Ladies Football: Leixlip 2 V Celbridge 05/05/15

On a beautiful, sunny evening in Leixlip, Celbridge U14 ladies footballers maintained their great run in the Division 3 league by recording their fifth straight win. From the throw in Celbridge were on top, with midfielder Niamh Mortell scoring a long range goal in the first minute of the game.  This set the pattern for the game, and even though Leixlip worked hard throughout, Celbridge were too strong and skilful in all areas of the pitch, and won the match comfortably 3-10 to 2-2.  Dominant throughout the first half, Celbridge added six further points to their early goal with Rachel O’Reilly (2), Niamh Mortell, Ciara Gallagher (2) and Megan Quinn all getting on the scoreboard. The Management team will no doubt have been happy with the range of skills displayed throughout the game with some fine fielding, slick hand passing and support play demonstrated by the girls.  Some of the girls’ kick passing was a joy to watch (I sense the Kerry influence here!) and during the game there were a number of flowing moves that saw the ball being moved swiftly and accurately from defence to attack.  Indeed it was Ciara Gallagher’s strong finish to a great team passing move that saw Celbridge get their second goal of the evening and at half time Celbridge led by 2-6 to 0-1. Celbridge were particularly strong up the middle, with the full back Emma Lynch and half back Roisin Naughton winning possession throughout the game and initiating numerous moves with their strong running and passing.  At midfield Leixlip tried out a number of different players but were unable to stop the Celbridge duo – Maria Keating and Niamh Mortell – from dominating this area of the pitch.  In the back line strong defending by Claire Landers and Ellen Thornton ensured Celbridge were on top of their opponents throughout. On the few occasions during the game that Leixlip troubled the Celbridge goal, they were thwarted by fine saves by starting goalkeeper Eva O’Hara and her second half replacement Amy Hogan. At half back Eve Wallace and Caitlin Thomas, marked their opponents tightly and linked up well with the midfield and half forwards.  Rachel at half forward was dangerous throughout the game and scored a cracking point from long range.   The rest of the forward line Megan, Amy Hogan, Erin Ruddy, Ciara and Amy Hanlon also excelled in their positions.  In the second half Celbridge continued to create chances however they did come up against some great defending from a Leixlip team who never gave up.  A looping shot into the top left hand corner of the goal topped off a fine second half performance by Megan while Eve Wallace’s forward runs were rewarded with a well taken point.  Nikki O’Keefe and Erin also added to Celbridge’s total in the second half.  Second half replacements Emily Farrell, Ciana O’Sullivan Laura Stirblyte, Alison O’Dwyer, Aine McKeon, Anna Peoples, Vivienne Lee and Rebecca Davis all contributed to an outstanding team performance.  The game was played in a great spirit and Leixlip persevered to the end and got their reward with a couple of late goals and point.  The skill and commitment of the whole panel is to be commended and they have certainly come a long way in the past two years.  Well done to the girls and the management quartet (Tommy, Jason, Darren and Paul). Good luck in the next game ‘Keep it Blue!’ Final Score: Leixlip 2-2 Celbridge 3-10 Next Match: Moorefield away Tuesday 10th May
