U 14 Ladies Division 3: Celbridge v Two-Mile House 21/04/16

Congratulations to Celbridge Ladies U14 team who continued their unbeaten run in the league campaign with a resounding victory over Two-Mile-House.  From the throw in Celbridge dominated possession with Maria Keating and Niamh Mortell on top at midfield and the excellent link up play between these two and the half forwards Megan Quinn and Rachel O’Reilly was an outstanding feature of Celbridge’s play throughout the game.  In the first quarter a combination of some wayward shooting and fine defending by Two-Mile House’s full back line ensured that Celbridge did not turn possession into scores.  Eventually Celbridge made their pressure count when full forward Ciara Gallagher scored an impressive opening goal and once ahead the team never looked back.  Following a couple of points from Maria and Rachel, a flowing move involving three players saw Ciara score her second goal of the night.  A series of hand passes and a great through ball from Rachel resulted in Amy Hogan getting Celbridge’s third goal of the night.  The tackling and ball distribution of the half backs Eve Wallace and Caitlin Thomas continued to create chances for the forwards and helped ensure that their opponents had few scoring opportunities and by half time Celbridge led 3-2 to 0-2.

The second half team performance was as impressive as the first with Celbridge’s ball winning, hard running and skilful interplay continuing to create scoring chances.  Rachel scored a fine fourth goal while Nikki O’Keefe who had come on as replacement scored 1-1.  Ciara, Maria and Niamh also contributed further points in the second half as Celbridge raced further ahead.  Emma Lynch and Roisin Naughton were superb throughout, playing a number of positions and ensuring that there was a steady supply of ball into the midfield and forward line.  Tommy and Paul rang the changes in the second half bringing on a number of players and also switching player positions. It is worth noting the contribution of the players who came off the bench and this strength in depth should be a key factor in meeting the challenges ahead.  To their credit Two-Mile House kept going right to the end scoring 1-1 late on but by that stage Celbridge had put 5-8 on the board.  So well done to all the management team and the girls, the hard work that they are putting in is certainly evident on the pitch.  As always there was fantastic support from the sideline including a visiting contingent from Spain (Vamos Celbridge!!).

Final Score: Celbridge 5-8 v Two-Mile House 1-2
