When play commenced, both sides battled in the midfield area, with a very experience referee, he allowed open play by both teams. There was a big family/friends turnout by Celbridge & Miltown and they were all in for good match. However! The first 5 points went to Celbridge, even the fact that they were playing against the wind. Celbridge racked up three points from play and two points from frees. It took Miltown until the 15th min to register their first point from play, but it felt like they were both the same, as Miltown took a number of shots at goal, which were saved excellently by Celbridge goalkeeper, as the girls from both sides were playing excellently. A goal then followed by the Celbridge mid-fielder, scoring from distance, Miltown did put another point over the Celbridge bar just before half-time but, it was quickly wiped away when Celbridge scored a second goal from a deflected shot. At half time the score was: Celbridge 02-05, Miltown 00-02.
On the resumption of the second half, the half-time team talk from the Celbridge coaches seemed to make a massive difference to the team! Celbridge but on their second goal keeper, made a few subs and came out on fire again, scoring another goal on the 6th minute into the second half, followed by two more points, which came from free kicks and Celbridge quickly gained the upper hand. Miltown did manage to score another point against Celbridge from a free kick just outside the box. But! It was too late at this stage, as another Celbridge forward scored two more goals & followed another by the centre forward and the game was all but over at this stage, Celbridge did put another 2 or 3 points over the bar near the end to finish.
The score line wasn’t a true reflection of Miltown, to be fair, as they played right up to the final whistle. But! The Celbridge girls were more eager to win and it was hard to tell at times, that it was the first match that all these girls played together as an U13’s team. The Celbridge defence was strong and this proved to be another key factor. The referee was very professional and was complemented by all on lookers from both teams. Needless to say the coaches were very happy & proud of all the girls today and looking forward to another home league match scheduled this Saturday (3rd Sept 2016 @2pm).
Final Score: Celbridge U13’s Girls 6-10 & Miltown U13’s Girl 0-3
